These are comprised of the following titles, written by A. A. Milne, published by Methuen and illustrated by the artist.\n<i>When We Were Very Young\nWinnie-the-Pooh\nNow We are Six\nThe House at Pooh Corner</i>\nThey were initially lent by the artist to the museum for the travelling exhibition 'Winnie-the-Pooh' in 1969-70 and were afterwards given to the museum by Mrs Norah Shepard on behalf of her husband.  Also included in the gift were 25 proofs of illustrations, 9 letters and 4 manuscripts by the artist, A. A. Milne, and others.  At the same time Mrs Shepard gave a further 9 sheets of illustrations to works by A. A. Ashdown Forest is open heathland, overlooked by Scots pine trees at a place known as Gills Lap (Galleons Lap in the stories) and joining two woods: the smaller, ’friendly’ Posingford Wood and the scarier Five Hundred Acre Wood. \r\nPiglet’s and Owl’s houses were in ancient beech trees. Owl’s, at the edge of Five Hundred Acre Wood, seemed to have ‘its elbow on the ground’. This was Christopher’s favourite because he could walk up and along its branch.
