A square main block with central circular domed area is flanked, front and rear, by short wings which enclose side courts that end in a columnar screen. The elevation proposes a giant order of columns across a central segmental recess as the principal feature of the main block with single flanking aedicules and sculptural panels above. Alternative elevations for the wings show, on the right, a block as high as the central building with an external coffered apse screened by columns and, left, a lower colonnaded structure with statues in niches at either end.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Robert Adam","id":"A8077"},"association":{"text":"architect","id":"THES265157"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing","id":"AAT54196"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pen and sepia ink on paper","categories":[{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"},{"text":"Architectural drawings","id":"THES274432"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2014HD3185"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"A","shelf":"150","box":"A"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawings","id":"AAT33973"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Rome","id":"x29106"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"In his catalogue of Robert Adam drawings Alistair Rowan suggests that this scheme appears to date from Adam's Roman period"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"18th century","earliest":"1700-01-01","latest":"1799-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"170","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"265","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Dimensions taken from Alistair Rowan. <u>Robert Adam: Catalogues of Architectural Drawings in the Victoria and Albert Museum</u>, London, 1988","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"The drawing is inscribed in ink with a 9 in the hand of Blair Adam.
