Among the named are Alfonso Corona del Rosal, then-Mayor of Mexico City, and Luis Echeverría, then-Minister of Interior and later President of Mexico. Under the command of General Crisoforo Monzon, the Mexican Army attacked the unarmed crowd, killing many and injuring many more. Many of the slain bodies were collected by the Army and dumped into the Gulf of Mexico, scandalising the families of victims and the wider community.
