Naudin</b>\r\nElevation of a capital and base from the\r\nTemple of Vesta, Tivoli.  1867\r\nPen and ink and wash\r\n\r\nThis drawing is a typical academic exercise as\r\npractised at the Ecole des beaux arts and other\r\nFrench design schools, in this case the Ecole\r\ncentrale d'architecture. The ink lines are drawn\r\nusing mathematical perspective; the drawing is\r\ngiven life (and the lines largely covered over) by\r\nthe use of colour and shading carried out using\r\nprecise calculations.
