Although the\r\ndecorative style suggests date of about \r\n1640, the bust and symbols celebrating the\r\nachievements of Louis XIV place it after\r\nabout 1670. The large blue stamp at the\r\nbottom of the drawing is a collector's mark.\r\nIt shows that this design belonged to the\r\nFrench painter Charles Jourdeuil. On his\r\ndeath in 1868 his collection was sold at \r\nauction.
