The upper face is of pink plain woven silk, and the bottom face is of plain woven silk with a green warp and pink weft. The four edges are bound with a narrow ribbon of pink, yellow and cream stripes with a metal strip. There is a simple tassel of pink and cream silk bound with metal thread attached to a loop of the same metal thread at each corner.\r\n\r\nThe patten is symmetrical and floral with a thistle, rose and carnation. There are faint pin holes showing that previous designs and inscriptions had been built up with pins. The cushion is fully stuffed with a filling that feels like grain.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Edlin, Martha","id":"A8363"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":"probably"}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk (textile)","id":"AAT243428"},{"text":"silver thread","id":"x29414"}],"techniques":[{"text":"plain weave","id":"x37295"},{"text":"hand sewing","id":"AAT257459"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Plain woven silks bound with ribbon and metal thread","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Needlework accessories","id":"THES49006"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2020MN2912","2006BC6765"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES307216"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Pin cushion","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1670s","earliest":"1670-01-01","latest":"1679-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased with the assistance of the National Heritage Memorial Fund and Art Fund","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"23.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"circumference (around vertical line of design) given as it is fully stuffed","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"22","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"11.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"silk panel of upper face","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'GOD.IS.A.PRESENT.HELPE.AT.NEED. / IT.IS.GOOD.TO.TRUST.IN.HIM. / LIVE.BY.FATH. / IOY.IN.HOPE. / E / W / A'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"pin","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"Inscription; decoration","note":"Inscribed; decoration of pins"}],"objectHistory":"Purchased.
