It was during this period that Fanny Guillon-Laffaille, who wrote the catalogue of all his works, known as a catalogue raisonné, felt that the artist's style and character emerged.  Dufy designed for silk, satin, brocade or cotton textiles.  Designs for silk must work on a repeat and be appropriate for the dyes used in the printed or woven textile.    The design has to work in different ways, when it is stretched tight or hangs in pleats or gentle folds.  Dufy explained that he owed his great artistic achievements during his lifetime to encounters with Paul Poiret, a leading couturier, and to Bianchini-Férier.
