It was granted a succession of royal privileges and flourished under the patronage of the king's brother, the duc d'Orleans. Early productions were frequently copied from silverware and are characterised by a creamy white body, often with delicate blue painting. The factory also developed a range of enamel colours and produced some particularly accomplished figures. \r\n\r\nBy the end of the 17th century forks had become an indispensable part of dining equipment and were used with knives in the modern way. Blades and tines were added to porcelain handles outside the factories by specialist workers in metal.","physicalDescription":"Fork with pistol-shaped handle and two tines.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Saint-Cloud porcelain factory","id":"A12332"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"porcelain","id":"AAT10662"},{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"},{"text":"steel","id":"AAT133751"}],"techniques":[{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"},{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Soft-paste porcelain handle painted in underglaze blue, with silver ferrule and steel tines","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Tableware & cutlery","id":"THES48888"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2008BT0090","2009CB6404","2006AG7248"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"145 (VA)","id":"THES49865"},"free":"","case":"11","shelf":"3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Fork","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"France","id":"x28849"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1700-1725","earliest":"1695-01-01","latest":"1725-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by J.
