The decorative work for St. Giles Church, Cheadle, was discussed in several letters from Pugin to J.G. Crace in 1845. The designs here were executed with minor modifications and survived in 1980.\r\n\r\nAugustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-52) is widely considered as one of the most significant and influential architects, designers and theorists of the 19th century. Following his conversion to Catholicism in 1835, he identified the Gothic style with Christian architecture and his work and writings inspired and framed the Gothic Revival. In 'Contrasts', published in 1836, he condemned classical forms and ardently praised 14th and 15th-century architecture. Pugin is best remembered for his work on the Palace of Westminster.","physicalDescription":"Perspective sketch showing east wall of the chancel of St. Giles, Cheadle, decorated with small angels in circles; and details of four patterns for ceiling panels in the chancel, two with stars, one with a cross and one with the sacred monogram, the last two with foliage background and all within decorative borders.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"A.W.N.
