The Révolution Nationale was his highly conservative domestic policy which aimed at recreating France out of defeat by purging the country of 'moral decadence'. This simple portrait poster capitalises on Pétain's popularity as a father figure at the time. The tricolour, however, sits rather incongruously, its revolutionary associations contrasting with Pétain's conservatism.","physicalDescription":"Second World War poster supporting the Vichy government bearing a portrait of Marshal Philippe Pétain.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Noyer, Philippe","id":"A13017"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"colour lithography","id":"AAT190525"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour lithograph","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Propaganda","id":"THES48902"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006BB5436"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"MM","shelf":"8","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"poster","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"France","id":"x28849"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1940","earliest":"1940-01-01","latest":"1940-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Gift of the American Friends of the V&A; Gift to the American Friends by Leslie, Judith and Gabri Schreyer and Alice Schreyer Batko","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"119.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"80.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Second World War poster supporting the Vichy government, France, 1940","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[{"text":"World War II","id":"V16"}],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"flag","id":"AAT195678"},{"text":"statesman","id":"AAT25484"}],"contentConcepts":[{"text":"war","id":"x35624"},{"text":"government","id":"AAT55499"},{"text":"propaganda","id":"AAT55539"},{"text":"politics","id":"AAT55537"}],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.1292-2004"],"accessionNumberNum":"1292","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2004,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"Leslie Schreyer Loan Number","id":"THES50220"},"number":"LS.390"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-08","recordCreationDate":"2004-06-15","availableToBook":false}}
