The French shoe designer Christian Louboutin gathered the hydrangea petals from his own garden and hand-dried them. They were then suspended in a clear resin sole to give the impression of walking on a carpet of flowers. \r\n\r\nLouboutin says: 'Gardens are a great inspiration for me…some designers might go to a Gauguin exhibition and say “Wow, what a beautiful blue”, but when I close my eyes I see shades of colour from gardens instead.’ (Impression 'Sole Man' November 1995) \r\n\r\nHere the vivid petals seem to float through the air, turning red and burnt orange as if touched by the light of the setting sun. You can almost smell the heady scent of flowers on a warm summer's evening.\r\n\r\nLouboutin opened his first shop in 1991.
